Know About Level 7

Level 7

The Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) level is the highest level of professional certification in recreational scuba diving. It allows individuals to teach and certify students at various levels, including the Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, and Rescue Diver certifications.

To become an Open Water Scuba Instructor, one must first be a certified Divemaster and meet the prerequisites set by the training agency. These prerequisites typically include a minimum age requirement, a minimum number of logged dives, and holding certifications in specific specialties.

The next step is to complete the Instructor Development Course (IDC), which is a comprehensive training program that covers scuba diving theory, teaching methods, dive planning, risk management, and dive equipment. The IDC consists of both classroom sessions and practical exercises in confined water and open water environments.

During the IDC, candidates learn how to effectively teach scuba diving skills, conduct knowledge development sessions, and evaluate and assess student performance. They also gain knowledge in dive theory, dive physics, physiology, and dive planning.

After completing the IDC, candidates must pass a final instructor examination, which typically includes written exams, confined water teaching presentations, and open water teaching presentations. Successful completion of the examination leads to the Open Water Scuba Instructor certification.

As an Open Water Scuba Instructor, individuals can work at dive centers, resorts, or independently, teaching and guiding students in their scuba diving journey. They play a crucial role in promoting safe diving practices, environmental awareness, and a love for the underwater world. OWSIs are also eligible to further their professional development by pursuing specialty instructor certifications and higher-level instructor ratings.
