Junior Open Water Diver

Know About Level 2

Level 2

The Junior Open Water Diver certification is a scuba diving certification designed for individuals between the ages of 10 and 14. It is a junior version of the Open Water Diver certification, which is the entry-level certification for recreational scuba diving.

To obtain the Junior Open Water Diver certification, a candidate must complete a series of requirements:

1. Age Requirement: The candidate must be at least 10 years old but not older than 14 years old.

2. Knowledge Development: The candidate must complete the knowledge development portion of the course, which typically involves studying the Open Water Diver manual or completing an e-learning program. This covers essential scuba diving theory, including dive planning, equipment use, and safety procedures.

3. Confined Water Dives: The candidate must complete confined water dives, which are conducted in a controlled environment such as a swimming pool. These dives focus on developing basic scuba skills, including mask clearing, regulator recovery, and buoyancy control.

4. Open Water Dives: The candidate must complete a series of open water dives, typically four to five dives, in an open water environment such as a lake or ocean. These dives allow the candidate to apply the skills learned in confined water and gain real-world diving experience under the supervision of a certified instructor.

5. Final Exam: The candidate must pass a final exam to demonstrate their understanding of scuba diving theory and safety practices.

Upon successful completion of these requirements, the candidate will be awarded the Junior Open Water Diver certification. This certification allows young divers to explore the underwater world under the supervision of a certified adult diver or dive professional. It is important to note that certain depth and supervision restrictions may apply to junior divers for safety reasons.
